Program Details

The U9 program follows the Canada Soccer Grassroots framework for Stage 3: Learn to Train. Sessions are built to support the physical, technical, and social development of young players through a blend of training and play.

Each session is guided by four core components of development:

  • Technical/Tactical: Basic soccer skills (dribbling, passing, shooting)
  • Physical: Agility, coordination, balance
  • Mental: Confidence, focus, and decision-making
  • Social/Emotional: Teamwork, listening, and having fun

Session Breakdown:

  • 10% General Movement
  • 10% Coordination
  • 40% Soccer Technique
  • 40% Small-Sided Games

Training activities are age-appropriate and progressive—designed to gradually increase in difficulty over the season. Players have the opportunity to practice their skills in realistic, game-like situations, helping them build both confidence and decision-making on the field.

Games & Scrimmages

The U9 program follows a 1:1 ratio of training to gameplay.

  • Practice Sessions 30-45 minutes of drills + 15-30 minutes of inter-squad scrimmage.
  • Match Day Session: Following Youth Soccer League (YSL) match schedule, players will participate in officiated matches.

These sessions provide valuable opportunities for players to apply their skills in a supportive, game-like environment.
